Growing Hydroponic Marijuana

By Castulo Zane

You can produce cannabis plenty of ways- hydroponically, aeroponically or in garden soil. You will find positives and negatives to each method. Hydroponics is surely an concept that may occur to most new growers relatively quickly in the procedure since it's really widespread.

Hydroponic marijuana cultivation functions by supporting the plant in some type of medium and then water is poured over the root system. The water is manipulated to include a particular mix of chemicals. PH can also be managed, as is oxygen content.

Hydroponics needs something to support the plant for it to work. We call this thing the medium, or growing medium. Hydroton is the best answer. It is a special product that lets water drain through it easily. It's easy to find in stores and online.

The medium itself has to be supported. Something like a flowerpot works well, but it needs to be modified or specially constructed. It has to have holes that let the water out. Otherwise the system will back up. Specialized containers can be acquired easily.

This combo, the plant, pot and hydroton, need to go somewhere. The best solution is to have them in yet another container of some sort that is watertight and can handle the addition of some plumbing fixtures. The solution goes into the to, runs over the plant, through the hydroton and pot, and into the container.

You also need a container to hold the solution. Think of this as a reservoir. It will have a pump in it that will circulate the solution through the top of the system, over the plant, through the pot and hydroton, into the container holding that combo, and then back to the reservoir. Bigger systems need bigger reservoirs - smaller systems can use smaller ones.

The system is now ready to close, and for that you need a pump, some hose, and some plumbing fittings. You will put a small pump in the reservoir and it will pump solution to the plant pot and drip it over the base of the plant. From there it will drain through the hydroton and into the container holding the plant pot. From there it will return, through a hole in the bottom of the pot holding system with a plumbing fixture and more hose, to the reservoir, where it will be re-circulated.

So, you need, in addition to the containers, hydroton, nutrients and water, a pump and some hose, as well as a power source. These need to be put together in a place where a water leak, should it occur, won't be disastrous. The system also has to be dependable enough that it won't break down and stop pumping, or get plugged somewhere along the way while it keeps pumping.

None of this is to difficult. It's all been done before, and there is a lot of room for creativity. It can be used both inside and outside, on a small scale or a big scale.

You do need a plan to start, though, and some supplies, so it is harder to start than plain soil farming. However, it is cleaner, lighter, and allows for more control. You also avoid lots of soil and dirt related diseases and pests.

Hydroponics is one of the most effective ways to cultivate cannabis. The yields will blow you away. The supplies required are easy to get and are legal. It's widespread adoption by commercial growers proves its effectiveness.
